Please Father, Strengthen My Faith

stack of rocks by body of water as analogy for strengthening faith

I used to feel that, when I prayed for certain blessings or situations in my life, God was silent. I would wonder if God was ignoring me or simply didn’t desire to answer those prayers. However, over time, God revealed to me that He is always speaking. God gently whispers His truths to us. He guides us and corrects us as a loving Father. In times of distress, He comforts us.

When we seek God in prayer, we may not always receive the response we desire. Sometimes God says no. Other times, He says not yet. In those moments, we need to trust God’s love for us.

Prayer isn’t easy. As we seek God in prayer, we’ll find both faith and doubt colliding. We’ll have to decide which one will fill our hearts. Will we trust that God is the God in the Bible? Will we believe He is a loving father and savior? Do we trust that He is omniscient and always orchestrating each detail of our lives for our good? Or is God silent, cold, and chaotic, or worse, doesn’t exist at all? These are the questions that confront us in prayer; the questions that make prayer a battle that must be fought in our hearts and minds.

As we pray this week, let’s ask God to strengthen our faith and help us to trust Him as we fight for victory in prayer.

Prayer of the Week: Asking God to Strengthen Our Faith and Trust Him for Victory

Father, I am coming to you because I do not know who you are in this situation in my life, but I want you to show me. I want to believe in your love and faithfulness. Please strengthen my faith. Help me to find victory in prayer as I trust in you. Help me to hear your voice, Father.

Your Word says to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4-6). I pray that you will convict me through your Spirit when any thought in my mind threatens to overcome the work of Jesus in my life. Let it will be torn down, Father. I pray, instead, that you will lead me from that mistruth back to your Word.

Strengthen me, Father, against doubt and fear. Speak truth and love to me when my insecurities overwhelm me. Remind me always of your unfailing love and steadfast faithfulness. Show me, Lord, how to walk with you when your answer to prayer is no or not yet. Encourage me to trust you when you speak big goals or blessings into my life that require great faith. Teach me to be attuned to your presence in the moments when my journey with you start to feel lonely or disappointing. Fight with me, Father, in those dark moments when my faith wavers and I must battle for it viciously.

Father, I thank you for the challenges that will grow my faith, the deepening intimacy between us, and the victories that are yet to come. In Jesus name. Amen!
