Please, God, Deliver Me and Restore My Purpose
Have you ever read the Bible and realized that what you thought about a Bible story was actually wrong? I had this realization years ago as I read about God parting the Red Sea for Moses and the Israelites in the book of Exodus. Cornered by Pharaoh’s army, Moses cried out to God on behalf of the Israelites, and God split the sea in half so that they could walk on dry ground.
I’d always envisioned that this happened on a beautiful sunny day. The waves gently parted and a rainbow decorated the sky as the Israelites shouted with joy. Well, instead of rainbow filled skies and gentle waves, God chose to do this miracle at night. It was dark when God opened the sea with a fierce wind. The path was lit by a pillar of fire and God sustained this miracle for an entire night! In this miracle we see God’s incredible power on display as He commands every element of nature in order to provide deliverance and restored purpose to His people.
Facing Our Own Pharaoh
Better understanding this story made me realize that we also face a “pharaoh” of sorts. The Bible tells us that Satan desire to “steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10). Like Pharaoh, the enemy of our soul pursues us to corner us, rob us of our purpose, and prevent us from fully living for God. He wants us to believe we are not saved, healed, or delivered. He wants us to feel that we can never overcome past mistakes, trauma, or addiction. Thankfully, the blood of Jesus Christ proves Him wrong. We serve a powerful supernatural God who is more than capable of delivering us, and who, out of love, fights on our behalf.
Perhaps you’re feeling cornered this week because you’re facing several trials and it seems like there is no way out. You feel as if you’ve lost all sense of purpose and are in survival mode. As part of our prayer this week, we’ll ask God for His deliverance and restored purpose in our lives.
Prayer of the Week: Asking God for deliverance and restored purpose
Father, I thank you that you deliver your people. The word of God says, “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36), and we have been freed by the blood of Christ. We come into agreement with your Word, Lord. We ask for full deliverance from the enemy who seeks to destroy our lives and keep us from walking in your purpose. Please touch every area in our lives in need of deliverance. We fully submit to you, Lord, and ask for complete freedom from past mistakes and past trauma. We come out of agreement with the enemy who is trying to convince us that we can never change or leave our past behind. Instead, we testify that we are save, healed, and delivered by Christ (Psalm 107:19-20, 1 Peter 2:23-25).
We ask for a full restoration in every area of our lives from our family life to our finances and health. We thank you, Lord, because we are not cornered. You have allowed this moment for us to see your great deliverance (Exodus 14:14). Father, we stand in faith believing that all things work for the good of those you love and have called (Romans 8:28). We trust you, Lord, and thank you now for the victory, our restored purpose, and the defeat of the enemy in our lives. In Jesus name we pray, amen!
