A Grander Celebration
“An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”’
Christmas is my favorite season. It’s cliche, but I love the gifts, the food, and the time I get to spend with family. I also love the feeling that anything is possible; a sense that something miraculous is just at the tip of a finger. It’s a feeling that is unique to this time of year. Maybe it’s the exclamations of surprise when kids open their gifts, the selflessness of volunteers who serve the homeless at soup kitchens, or the smell of sizzling bacon cooked by loved ones on Christmas morning but there’s something about Christmas that makes me want to expect the unexpected.
Christmas Points to an Even Grander Celebration
Perhaps this feeling comes from the understanding that we’ve received the unexpected gift of salvation. A gift Jesus brought into the world through his birth, crucifixion, and resurrection. The night Jesus was born was a wondrous occasion for both angels and men. It became a moment of great celebration in heaven and on earth. A celebration that has been passed down to us and memorialized in our modern day Christmas gatherings.
The tinsel draped trees, beautifully wrapped gifts, and tenderhearted family moments of the Christmas season point to a grander celebration. They remind us that we will be united forever with our Heavenly Father and both earthly and angelic beings will praise God for eternity in a new heaven and earth.
In Conclusion
In the meantime, we can thank God who loved us enough to send His son that we may spend an eternity with Him. We can praise and glorify Him for what He has done and for the grand celebration that is yet to come.
Let’s Pray
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of eternal salvation through Jesus. I’m so grateful that Jesus died and rose for me. May this Christmas season remind me of the eternal celebration that awaits me. I pray that you will speak into my life during the holidays. Remind me, Father, that Jesus loves me, has saved me, and waits for me in heaven. In Jesus name I pray, amen!
