I’m Saved! What to Do After Getting Saved

Congrats on getting saved! Salvation is the first step on your journey to a relationship with God. It is also the most important decision of your life! After getting saved, you should find a church, start reading the Bible, begin praying daily, find a mentor, and share your faith. If you want to learn more about how to start living the Christian life, please keep reading!

Step #1: Find a Great Church

Finding a great church will help you grow your relationship with God after getting saved. Churches provide sound Biblical teaching, discipleship, opportunities to practice your faith through serving, and more. A good church can encourage you in your faith, especially when you’re in a difficult season in life. Interested in tips on finding a good church? Read my blogpost on finding a church.

Step #2: Saved? Start Reading the Bible

The Bible helps us to understand God, His relationship with us as His people, why we need God, and how to live to honor Him. The Bible is an essential part of our faith. After getting saved, it’s important to prioritize reading the Bible regularly. Creating a plan to read the Bible will help you to grow quickly in your faith. It will also help you to better understand what you believe. In order to read the Bible, some Christians even create a set time to pray, worship, and read the Bible called a devotion time or quiet time. For tips on reading the Bible, check out some of my other blogs.

Step #3: Incorporate Prayer into Your Life

An important part of our faith, prayer is how we communicate with God. Prayer can feel awkward at first but it can become as natural as breathing over time. After getting saved, you should take time to pray daily. The first reason you should pray daily is because prayer is the primary way we ask God to help us live the Christian life. The second reason you should pray daily is because we pray to thank God for His blessings. Lastly, we pray to enjoy God’s presence. Just like in any other relationship, communication is important when it comes to God. We need to be intentional about creating time to pray and build our relationship with God.

Step #4: Get a Mentor

Being a Christian isn’t easy. Having a mentor will help with living out your faith. It’s one thing to read about the principles in the Bible and another thing to watch someone walk them out faithfully. Now that you’re saved, find a mentor who has been a Christian for a while. A mentor can help you learn to practically live out your faith. A mentor can also give you ideas on how to handle life’s challenges from a Christian perspective.

The best way to find a mentor is through prayer and your local church. Ask God to help you find someone to encourage you in your faith and pay attention as you attend church. Is there someone whose relationship with God you admire? Perhaps you could start by establishing a friendship with this person. If not, ask a pastor for help. A pastor may be able to connect you with another believer who would be willing to help you grow in your faith.

Step #5: Celebrate Your Salvation! Share Your Faith!

Some of the best testimonies come from new believers because they still remember what God has done for them and why they decided to become a believer! After getting saved, take advantage of your excitement to share what God is doing in your life.

I also want to mention that sharing your faith is something that you’ll be doing the rest of your life. According to the Bible, we should always be ready to share our faith (1 Peter 3:15). Why not start now as a new believer? Starting now will allow you to get in the habit of sharing your testimony and defending your beliefs.
