We’ve all been there. Those moments when it feels like your life is crumbling in slow motion. Everything feels impossible. Defeat is inevitable. You do everything you can to course correction—you work harder, obey God’s Word, pray fervently, and take the extra precautions. And it all still falls apart. You’re not alone. We’ve all experienced feelings of hopelessness. I’ve been there, too. And you know what? It’s okay. It’s okay to feel lost, disappointed, and hopeless.
Below, I’ll share three reason why we struggle with hopelessness and four biblical steps to help us trust God in those moments.

Feelings of hopelessness are often the result of unanswered prayers, feeling stuck, or feeling discouraged.
Three Reasons Christians Feel Hopeless
Feeling hopeless doesn’t mean that God has failed you. However, if you’re struggling with hopelessness, more than likely you’ve experienced one of the three feelings below. These three feelings often build up to a sense of hopelessness.
#1: You Feel Disappointed Because of Unanswered Prayer
Feelings of hopelessness are often the result of feeling disappointed when our prayers go unanswered. When we don’t receive what we desire, we often feel frustrated and begin to doubt God. This can be especially true if we’ve invested a lot of time in prayer or feel that what we’re praying for is truly in our best interest.
While we may not understand why God doesn’t answer our prayers, we can trust that He loves us and has a plan for us. Romans 8:28 says:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
This verse reminds us that, even when we don’t receive what we desire, God has a good plan and good purpose for us. Despite feeling disappointed, we can find a way to move forward in faith because we serve a God who desires to work everything out for our good.

#2: You Feel Hopeless Because You Feel Stuck

#3: You Feel Discouraged through Daily Living
Job loss. Unexpected health issues. Natural disasters.These are just a few of the chaotic situations life throws our way. The challenges of life can easily overwhelm us and lead to feelings of hopelessness. This is especially true when our circumstances are beyond our control. Christian Encouragement to Trust God and Overcome Feelings of Hopelessness
According to the Bible, our hope should come from God. Lamentations 3:21-23 says:
Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.
This scripture tell us that we can put our hope in our loving God who shows us His endless mercy and compassion. Our hope shouldn’t come from our circumstances. Instead, it comes from putting our trust in our loving Heavenly Father. Likewise, Romans 15:13 says:

He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?
When we feel hopeless, it is often because something we put our trust in has failed us. What we need the most when we feel hopeless is something trustworthy to believe in. Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.

We can have hope because our God is faithful, and He is working to bring to completion the eternal work He is doing in us.
