Easter and the Resurrection: 3 Powerful Reasons We Have Hope in Jesus

One of the greatest gifts Jesus gave us through His sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection is hope. This hope comes from the knowledge that God loved us enough to send Jesus to pay for our sins. Jesus purchased eternal life for us through His suffering on the cross. Because of Him, we can have a restored relationship with God and the confidence that we will live with Him forever.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle of daily life and forget that we are eternal beings. Our souls long for eternity, which is why we wonder what happens after death and why we strive to leave a lasting legacy on earth. It is also why Jesus’s death and resurrection is so important—He met this deep longing in our souls by securing eternal life for us.

Knowing that this life is not the end brings peace and joy, even in difficult moments. No matter what we go through, we can rejoice that Jesus purchased our salvation and cling to the hope that we can enjoy an eternal relationship with our creator.

Reason #2: We Have Hope because We are a New Creation

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Another reason for hope is that we have been made new through Christ. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid for all of our sin for all time. We are no longer chained to past mistakes, guilt, or shame. We have been completely set free from these things. 

In fact, God is changing our desires so that we can learn to live righteously for Him. This means that God not only redeemed our past, but He is also redeeming our future.

Through Christ, we are:

• Forgiven—Our sins are wiped away
• Transformed—God is changing our desires to align with His will
• Redeemed—We can shed the guilt and shame from our past and experience freedom

No matter what you’ve done, Jesus’s death and resurrection gives you a fresh new beginning. You’re no longer chained to past mistakes. Instead, you are free to become a new person in  Christ. You now have a future filled with new purpose and this powerful truth is a great reason to have hope!

Reason #3: We Have Hope because God Promises to Help and Guide Us

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:16-17)

After the resurrection, Jesus was excited to return to heaven. Why? Because He knew that the Holy Spirit would come and empower us to live righteously, fulfill God’s call on our lives, and strengthen us during difficult times. The presence of the Holy Spirit means that God is always with us. We no longer have to worry about doing life alone because we have a helper, counselor, and friend who will never abandon us.

There are many great stories in the Bible about men and women who did extraordinary things because they were filled with the Holy Spirit. That same power has been given to us freely! This means that we can put our hope in God because we are never without His help, direction, and strength.
