How Do You Know God Loves You? 3 Powerful Truths to Remember

Have you ever wondered if God loves you? The answer is yes! God loves you more than you could ever imagine. How do I know? I know that God loves you because Jesus died on the cross for you, He said so in His word, and He sent the Holy Spirit to be our friend and counselor. God cares for you deeply and desires to have a loving relationship with you.

In this blogpost, I’ll discuss the three ways that you can know that God loves you.

1: You Know God Loves You because Jesus Died on the Cross

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:13)

You can know that God loves you because God the Father sent Jesus to die for you. According to the Bible, we are sinful and deserving death (Romans 3:23). Yet, God wanted you to have eternal life and an eternal relationship with Him. The only way to accomplish that was for Jesus to go to the cross. Hebrews 9:22 says, “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” This means that there is only one way to atone for sin—death. Jesus chose to sacrifice Himself in your place so that your relationship with God could be restored. 

Furthermore, Jesus did this while we were still sinning (Romans 5:8). He did this while being betrayed by the very people who He came to save (Luke 22:4-6). He did this knowing full well that we would no doubt slip up and sin in the future (Romans 7:15-20). Jesus chose to love you and sacrifice Himself for you and there is nothing that you could have done to earn this act of love. This Bible verse, perhaps the most famous verse in the Bible, summarizes Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross beautifully: “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). 

The cross is a powerful testimony of the love of God. It is a reminder that God chose to love you even to the point of death. In fact, He even conquered death itself to be in a relationship with you!

2: God Said He Loves You in His Word!

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. (Ephesians 3:17-18)

The Bible Reveals God’s Love

Personally, I like to think of the Bible as God’s love story. It tells us about how we were created to be in relationship with God and how sin separated us from Him. It documents God’s attempt to establish relationship with us and bring salvation through the Israeli people. Lastly, the Bible explains Jesus’s life and sacrifice on the cross and how He purchased our salvation to finally restored our relationship with the Father. 

When I read the Bible, I’m in awe of the fact that God worked tirelessly towards the goal of saving us from our sins. This is the story that the Bible tells in its totality—the story of a God whose unfathomable love caused Him to invest thousands of years on a plan to save us from eternal death. A God who used every resource in the universe at His disposal to bring us back into relationship with Him, even committing the life of His Son to this end.

The Bible speaks of an everlasting love that is beyond anything we can truly understand. The closest we can come to understanding God’s love is the love of a parent. One of my favorite Bible verses says, “can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15). This verse is a beautiful reminder that God views us as His children and His love for us may even be greater than a mother’s enduring love. 

A Prayer for You

The Bible is full of verses that proclaim God’s love and faithfulness to you. It is my hope and prayer that, as you read the Bible, God’s words of love for you would be illuminated in your heart and mind in such a way that it irrevocably deepens your relationship with Him and fuels you in your faith.

3: He is with You!

The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. (Deuteronomy 31:8)

God is always with you. He hears you when you pray, He speaks to you, and counsels you through life (Jeremiah 33:3). You may not always feel that God is present, but the reality is that He is present in your life, even in your loneliest moments. Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” This verse is a beautiful reminder that God is with you even in heartache. God never abandons you. Not in heartbreak, or depressions, or grief. It may be difficult to feel His presence when those emotions are strong, but God is still there. 

The Bible also tells us that we cannot escape God’s presence. Psalm 139 reminds us that, no matter where we go, God will be always be there to guide us. 

Not only is God present with you, but He also desires to spend intimate time with you. In fact, the Bible encourages you through scripture to seek God out and learn His ways. Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Verses like this act as an invitation for you to spend time with God.

Yes, God Loves You!

As Christians, we have an assurance that God will always be with us and desires to spend time with us. We are truly blessed to serve a faithful God who affirms His love for me and you through His word time and time again!
